The Acropolis hill, so called the "Sacred Rock" of Athens, is the most important site of the city. During Perikles' Golden Age, ancient Greek civilization was represented in an ideal way on the hill and some of the architectural masterpieces of the period were erected on its ground.
The Parthenon. It is the most important and characteristic monument of the ancient Greek civilization and still remains its international symbol. It was dedicated to Athena Parthenos, the patron goddess of
Athens.

The real estate market in Greece has shown significant growth during the last decade mainly due to the reduction of interest rates, the deregulation of rents and the increase of the living standards across the country. The many islands of Greece provide an ideal investment opportunity in real estate to suit every investor’s needs.

Mount Athos is situated in the entire third, eastern and most beautiful peninsula of Halkidiki, called the peninsula of Athos. It is the only place in Greece that is completely dedicated to prayer and worship of God.

Did you know…

that Greeks are pioneers in many things?

For instance:

1. The Olympic Games were first organized in 667 b.C.

2.  Also, theatre has its origins in ancient Greece (Athens). The well-known theatre of Dionysus is the oldest all over the world.

Dionysos Theatre (the world’s oldest theatre)

3. The Greeks excelled in sciences and first dealt with basic principles of mathematics.

4.  All the basic Christian texts were firstly written in Greek.

5. Philosophy has its roots in ancient Greece! Some of the most important philosophers were Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.

Did you know…

o             The first Christian teaching in Europe was given in Kavala, by Apostle Paul.

o             When he was still in Troy and while sleeping, he had a vision, where a Macedonian requested him to leave Asia and come to Macedonia in order to help them. Thus, he sailed from Troy and with an intermediate stop in Samothraki, he arrived two days later in "Neapolis" (present day Kavala), from where he traveled to Philippi. Later, he expressed his deep feeling of love for the Christian citizens of Philippi by writing and sending them his Epistle in 62 or 63 AD.

o             The Delta of Nestos is one of the most important nature resorts in Greece and is protected by Ramsar treaty.

o             The first strike in the Balkans took place in Kavala in 1899 by the tobacco factories workers.

o             Kavala, during its long history has been given three different names. Is was founded as " Neapolis " by Thasians in about 650-625 BC. The name " Neapolis " was still used until the 9th century and then, it was named " Christoupolis " due to the visit of Apostle Paul in the area. The name " Kavala ", according to an one version, was given by Genoan people; it is widely believed to derive from the word " Cavalo ", meaning horse, due to the shape of the city. According to another version, it took the name from the neighbouring town of " Skavala ".

A brief note on its history and architecture.

Built from 1908 to 1910 on the slope of the hill – then bare of buildings, just above the “Kamares” (medieval aqueduct), it has got an imposing presence in the whole city. Originally belonging to the Turkish community of Kavala, it was at first used as a Turkish school for a short while; then, during the Balkan wars (1912 – 1913), as a Greek hospital. Nowadays (since 1919), it houses the 1st High school of Kavala. Architecturally, it follows the neoclassic movement of its time combined with some Ottoman elements; some conspicuous features being the wooden eaves-work of which the ornamental supports are also known by the Ottoman name “furus”.
